Ten Steps to Perfect Pasta

I'm amazed at how often I get e-mail from a disgruntled home cook, lamenting the fact that, once again, a dish of pasta has turned into a culinary disaster. I hear stories of overcooked, undercooked, tasteless pasta that may also be stuck together, or otherwise inedible. In fact, I recently had the experience where I was shopping with a friend and I suggested that she buy some pasta. Her response was that it was too unpredictable to cook.

It needn't be that way. First of all, 90% of cooking is being there. That is, letting the telephone ring through to voice-mail; perhaps leaving guests in the living room sipping their Chardonnay and simply keeping your focus on the task at hand. And by being there-that is, tending the pasta-you'll be able to do the only test available to judge its doneness: to taste.

Those two tips alone will improve your pasta-cooking skills, but I offer here, ten little steps that, taken together, will guarantee a perfect dish of pasta every time. Follow these steps, and you'll prepare pasta that will consistently impress your family, your friends, and your harshest critic; you.

1. All pasta is not created equal. Choose a brand with a solid reputation in the marketplace. De Cecco and Barilla are two fine brands readily available in supermarkets.

2. Use a pot that's large enough to accommodate the pasta without crowding. For one pound of pasta, an eight-quart pot is good; a ten-quart pot is better. Pasta needs room to move freely as it cooks. At a minimum, use nothing smaller than a six-quart pot.

3. Use plenty of water. For one pound of pasta, you should use at least six quarts of water.

4. Add salt to the water. About 1 Tbs. per gallon. Salt adds flavor to the pasta that helps to create a well-seasoned dish. Often, a perfectly seasoned sauce will still taste like it needs "something" because the pasta is unseasoned.

5. Bring the water to a full, rolling boil before adding the pasta. One of the prime causes for pasta sticking together is that the water had not yet come to a full boil. When you add pasta to water that has not yet reached the boiling point, it releases natural starches, which act like glue. Since the pasta is simply sitting in the water at the time, the strands stick together.

6. Bring the water back to the boil as quickly as possible after adding the pasta. In the case of pasta strands, like spaghetti or linguine, stir the pasta until it has wilted and become submerged in the cooking water, then cover the pot until the water returns to the boil. When the water has boiled, though, uncover the pot, and finish cooking uncovered.

7. Stir the pasta two or three times throughout the cooking process. Pasta cooks in eight to ten minutes. The brief time you spend attending to it away from family or guests will reap huge rewards at the dinner table.

8. Never add olive oil to the pasta cooking water. The olive oil coats the pasta, and prevents sauce from adhering to it when you've put the entire dish together.

9. Cook the pasta to the 'al dente' state. The only way to judge this is by tasting. Manufacturer's cooking times are mere guidelines. Begin tasting the pasta about two minutes before the manufacturer says it should be done. Also, there will be a small amount of carryover cooking between the time you remove the pasta from the stove, drain in the sink, and combine with the sauce.

10. Never rinse pasta. When you rinse pasta, you're washing away most of the starches and nutrients that you were seeking to enjoy in the first place.

So be there. Be attentive. Taste, and learn when pasta has cooked to the consistency that you like. Follow these ten little steps, and you'll develop a reputation as a miracle worker with pasta. And with the myriad of sauces in the Italian and Italian-American cuisines, you will have expanded your cooking repertoire beyond your wildest dreams.

They know what they want and they have the DESIRE to succeed. If you don't know exactly what you want when it comes your home-based business, think about it again and re-consider your plans, what you want to achieve, a get-rick-quick or a profitable, long term business.

2. It's their start-up plan that brings success

Smart entrepreneurs know that it takes time to set-up and grow a profitable home-based business. They plan to succeed. They have a start-up plan that might fail but they never give up and start again with a better plan.

Serious entrepreneurs know that it takes discipline and time to build a strong and solid home-based business, which delivers ongoing income through many years to come.

3. It's their initial RESEARCH that brings success

Study each successful entrepreneur in your marketing field and you'll notice how they market online / offline.

Each of them have their own 'unique' marketing strategy but they use the same basic principles.

Don't re-invent the wheel. Use the main marketing concepts that are proven to work but try to improve and adjust them to your own situation. Make them work for your home-based business. Make your offer better and unique than your competitors if you want to WIN in this business, or simply quit (I know that's no what you really want!)

5. It's their investment that brings success

Smart entrepreneurs know that the KEY is to work SMART, not hard. If you don't have the required skills to develop a NEW marketing tactic for your home-based business why not hire a consultant who knows his stuff?

If you have 'enough' money why not invest in someone who can help you grow your home-based business and give me something to work at too?

What is more valuable to you, your time or your money?

A serious entrepreneur is ready to invest (both time and money). He knows that he will build a long-term successful business for him and the one he loves (friends, family, children, etc.)

The final (or first?) STEP you need to take in order to succeed is to act (take ACTION!). Yes, put into practice what I have told you above (the 5 TIPS for Home-Based Business Entrepreneurs) and you'll succeed, no matter what. Trust me!

Low Carb Cookbook Review - 15-Minute Low-Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender

Busy, busy, busy. Today's schedules and fast paced, multi-tasking lifestyles make it difficult for most of us to find the time needed to prepare and serve balanced, nutritious and tasty meals. I am no exception. Since I tend to be a problem-solver by nature, I decided to gather a collection of quick, fast and easy low-carb recipes so I could save time in the kitchen but still stick to my low-carb lifestyle.

I expected it would take quite awhile to get enough recipes together to make a difference. However, thanks to Dana Carpender's newest low-carb cookbook my collection has grown overnight!

15-Minute Low-Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender (Fair Winds Press, 2003) gave my collection a huge boost. From the introduction, I found that the entire purpose of this book is to provide a cookbook filled with recipes that take a maximum of 15 minutes to make-and that includes prep time. Sound intriguing? I thought so, too.

This 253-page compendium offers more than just microwave or "tear open a protein bar" meals. These recipes were all timed and each was considered for health, feasibility and appropriateness to the book's theme. Dana's introduction explains her reasons, her processes, and offers detailed hints, tips and tricks to cut down prep time.

To give you an overview of the contents, there are thirteen chapters divided by food type, such as "15-Minute Eggs," "15-Minute Tortilla Tricks," "15-Minute Main Dish Salads," "15-Minute Skillet Suppers," and Chapter 12, "15-Minute Condiments, Sauces, Dressings, and Seasonings," which has my favorite homemade sugar-free ketchup recipe. Of course, I cannot forget to mention the last chapter, "15-Minute Desserts."

Written in an easy to follow, relaxed style, this book feels like an old friend for those of us who have come to know Dana's work from her 2002 cookbook, the very popular 500 Low-Carb Recipes. If you are not familiar with her previous book, I think you will be pleased with her comfortable, confidant style and helpful insights.

There seems to be recipes to suit most everyone, from low-carb soups to high-protein nuts. I especially appreciate that the recipes have short instructions, are very fast to read-and they are easy to make. A few I have tried and enjoyed include, "Houbyfest Eggs," "Blintzlets," "Parmesan Chicken Breasts," "Sour Cream Ham Supper," and "Cheater's Chowder." And, I am wrapping "Cinnamon Splenda® Nuts" in red plastic wrap tied with a thin velvet ribbon for Valentine's Day mini gifts. (I will wait until next month to tell the recipients the gift was sugar-free!)

15-Minute Low-Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender is available through book retailers on and offline. Get more information on Dana Carpender, her books, projects and e-mail newsletter on her Web site at holdthetoast.com.

How You Can Enjoy Golf Even During Bad Weather

Avid golfers would like to play the game as often as possible. They'd love to be able to play all the time if it was only reasonable to do so. And that means playing in every kind of weather condition there is. A person with true passion for the game of golf would certainly want to play through even the worst kind of weather, at least that's what every lover of the game would prefer.

To those golfers who would like to thoroughly enjoy the game even during bad weather, what they need is adequate protection from the elements. During the more extreme kinds of weather, the elements are particularly more harsh than usual. In order to cope with that, golfers - whatever skill level they may be - should be adequately prepared. A few tips about how they can be prepared to still enjoy the game would be nice to have on hand.

The following are some of those tips that can help with the continued enjoyment of playing golf even in cases of bad weather.

Always be sure that you have adequate waterproof clothing with you. This type of clothing should not only protect you from the elements, but is also light, breathable, and offers a tremendous amount of comfort. So you wouldn't feel hampered with your movements at all. And this type of clothing is also constantly being updated, so you could expect even better waterproof clothing in the coming days. Wear the proper golf shoes, which in this are waterproof golf shoes. It would be extremely uncomfortable to walk around, much less play, in shoes that are already soaking wet. That makes wearing waterproof shoes doubly important. Also remember to bring along an extra pair pf socks, just in case you'd need to use it because your original socks got wet. Having a golf umbrella would also be quite handy. With the modern version being larger and having an overlapping layer tat allows for the wind to blow right through - preventing your umbrella to blow from the inside out, this is a very good thing to have when golfing during rainy days or other instances of extreme weather. A golf towel should be added to the stuff that you're bringing to the golf course. Select a really towel and it would do for the purpose that you have for it. In order to be effective, you need to keep it dry though. You are going to need to keep your hands as dry as possible, and also to keep the grips of your golf clubs clean and dry. Choose a good hat to wear. To keep water from getting in your face and distracting you from the game and in making even the most basic movements, you need one of those waterproof hats that are also wide brimmed. Make sure that your golf clubs are adequately protected by using a hood that's specially made for golf bags. A hood that's designed properly will make sure that no moisture will penetrate and wet the golf club grips and shafts.

Sailing Beginner - Launching Your Sailing Boat

In this sailing beginner article, I'd like to explain how to launch the sailboat from the boat trailer step by step. The first thing I do when I arrive at the boat ramp is to check to see if anyone is currently using it. If no one is, I turn the tow vehicle around so that I'm in position to back down the boat ramp. However, before actually backing down on the ramp, I perform the following preliminary steps while still on a dry flat surface. Or if someone is currently using the boat ramp, I will proceed with these same steps while in the parking lot. And once the boat ramp is available, and I completed a few preliminary steps first, I will back down and put it in the water. Here's what you need to do first.

I take off the safety chain at the bow, and then I go to the back of the boat and remove the nylon strap. In this way, the sailboat will be able to float off the trailer and separate from it once it's submerged.

Tip: Here's a little tip that will save you money and time. Make sure to disconnect the trailer wire from the tow vehicle before you back the trailer into the water. This will avoid burning out light bulbs unnecessarily. The reason that a bulb may burn out is when backing down the ramp, your foot will be constantly on the brake and as a result the boat trailer brake lights are getting hot. But once submerged, they will get even hotter and can easily short out at this point. Trust me, I know this works, because one day while launching my sailboat I forgot to disconnect the trailer lights and burned out one of the bulbs instantly. Try this next time you launch, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Next, I attach a 25-foot piece of nylon rope to the bow of the sailboat. Then I point the side mirrors on my tow vehicle down, so that I can see the boat ramp while backing down it. This prevents me from driving off the ramp, as you cannot see the boat trailer at this point to use as a reference. Once the trailer is completely submerged, I put the vehicle in park along with the parking brake. And then I proceed to release the sailing boat off the trailer by slowly cranking the winch handle out until the boat is now free from the trailer.

Tip: A word of caution is merited here, please be careful to keep clear of the boat winch handle especially when the winch is under tension by the weight of the sailboat. My Renken 18 foot sailing boat weighs over 1,200 pounds and creates a lot of tension especially when it's on the incline of a boat ramp. One day I accidentally released the winch while being distracted and the handle just about knocked my two front teeth out! Thankfully my dentist was just up the street and I had to make an emergency appointment. Don't let this happen to you! If you are going to quick release the sailboat, make sure you position the handle in a neutral position first to avoid any personal injury to yourself.

I prefer to release the sailboat a little at a time after that accident, by turning the winch handle slowly a little at a time, making sure to keep my body clear of it, until I can unhook the winch strap from the bow. Then I gently push the sailboat off the trailer with both hands, then I grab the 25foot rope mentioned earlier so I don't have to go swimming for it, and tie it up to the dock by controlling it with the rope. There you have it, with these few steps and words of caution will enable you to launch your sailboat for the first time. Until my next article - Happy Sailing!

Understanding The 6 Bankruptcy Codes

If you are having financial difficulties and may be forced to file for insolvency, it is important to understand the particular bankruptcy code that provides the proper procedures unique to your process. Typically, there are 6 codes which are enshrined within several chapters of Title 11 of the United States codes. How you choose the chapter to file for bankruptcy often depends on the situation you are in.

You can petition because you have too many debts that cannot be paid due to financial constraints. These chapters provide for the proper information that you may need. The same applies to corporations, small businesses, partnership and big companies. Here are the 6 codes:

1. Under Chapter 7 an individual or a business, partnership, sole proprietorship or even a corporation can apply for a declaration of bankruptcy. The requirement here however, is that the applicant must have received approved credit counseling not less than 6 months, before the filing for insolvency.

2. Chapter 13 provides for smaller unincorporated businesses and individuals. However, the individual or business must have secured or unsecured debt that is below a specific amount required. This amount changes quite often to ensure that it is in line with consumer price index.

3. These codes that are available also apply to particular establishments and public institutions. This is provided under Chapter 9. This chapter was created to respond to the great depression and it is rarely utilized in modern set up. This is because it is highly unlikely to find a municipal entity falling into deep debt and being forced to be declared bankrupt.

4. Another important code is found in Chapter 12. Here, this code was established particularly to make things simple for certain types of families. This is done by providing a clear guideline on how the debts owed by such families, should be paid putting into consideration the specific income of the families.

5. Chapter 11 ensures that business owners can keep their businesses active. The idea is to find a way to restructure its credit payment so that it does not affect the existence of the business.

6. A more recent code that was included around the year 2005 falls under Chapter 15. Generally, this Chapter was introduced to ensure compliance with the principles highlighted under the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. This chapter covers procedures for companies that conduct their business in multiple countries.

Change A Teen Through Unconditional Acceptance

You may have heard of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. In a nutshell, if we are to ever to ascend the summit of our true potential, and live a happy and fulfilling life (self-actualization), we must first provide ourselves the basic needs of, as Maslow puts it, Esteem, Love/belonging, Safety, and Physiological.

One of our most primary needs is ACCEPTANCE. It falls into the "Love/Belonging" and "Esteem" categories.

Acceptance is never more important than during the teen and preteen years - when they are clamoring, ever so awkwardly, toward adulthood and on their way to the summit of self-actualization (their true potential).

Many of us believe the basic need of Acceptance can only be supplied by others. That it is something that comes to us, and something others must provide for us.

"BZZZZZZZZT!" Wrong! Or, in the words of Alex Trebek, "Oooooo... sorry."

One thing I stress to teens as I travel across the country is that if they spend their time expecting other people to make them happy, they'll never be happy.

The same thing is true with Acceptance.

The person who should be the most accepting of you... is you.

Why do you think teens make so many stupid decisions? Even adults for that matter?

When people are hungry for acceptance and seek after validation, they make choices that they wouldn't normally make. They believe that by acting a certain way it will help them to be noticed and accepted by the person or group they're trying to impress.

Why do you think:

kids get involved in gangs there is a bullying epidemic in schools across our nations there are as many as 850,000 teen pregnancies reported each year 20% of teens have seriously considered suicide in the last 12 months 80% of 12th graders and 51.7% of 8th graders use alcohol as their drug of choice 1.3 million students fail to graduate each year

... and on and on.

To help a teen accept themselves, they must feel unconditional acceptance from you.

Giving a teen unconditional acceptance means regardless of what they've done, who they are, what they say, or where they come from, you make them feel understood instead of judged. And that's not always easy. We're human. It's natural to pass judgment.

Don't confuse acceptance with approval.

Accepting a teenager unconditionally doesn't mean you have to accept their reasoning, the premise of what they're saying, their poor behavior or bad attitude, their disrespect, their playing the victim card, or their oft-times poor sense of judgment.

But the simple act of showing them that you accept them for who they are, as a person - their weaknesses, strengths and all - is the first step to helping them build their own self-acceptance. This will lead to their building a more positive self-esteem and self-confidence. It will open the door of a truly meaningful relationship in inspiring and influencing the life of a teen.

Hire Link Building Expert Who Knows More Than Link Building

A number of new companies who have a limited understanding of the vast genre of online marketing are often confused about the effectiveness of link building in terms of high on- page visits and pompous ranking of the website on a search engine page. The primary purpose of this article is to highlight the different phases of link building along with identifying requisite skill sets, that an enterprise must look for when considering to hire a link building expert.

Traditionally, link building is regarded as a monotonous, machine-like, repetitive routine that does not require specific skills or know-how. This assumption about this job profile is quite off beam and incorrect. A lot of substance and spirit can be attached to a link building process, if only role and responsibility of a link builder is clearly defined. The main objective of the link building process is to build quality inbound links that improves the ranking of a website on search engine web pages such as Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. However, marketing teams can really use the expertise of a link builder in their pursuit of identifying certain key elements that can make the entire marketing campaign an effective one.

Most link builders and SEO experts are silent observers on the cyber space. A crucial aspect of their job is to analyze, tap latest trends and prepare a report. It is an unacknowledged truth that the expertise of a link-building executive goes much beyond his/her usual responsibility of link building. A link builder is a highly skilled resource who can extend valuable inputs in determining the flavor of the marketing campaign and type of content that should be capitalized upon. Therefore, companies should hire a link building expert who is abreast with the latest search engine algorithms and web marketing techniques.

Big names such as Google have a very high repute in the market. There are number of users who blindly believe in the search engine results generated by Google. In the bid to protect their name and repute, Google periodically changes its search engine algorithm to safeguard the interest of its users. A good link builder is one who not just creates inbound link, but shares insightful details to helps an SEO campaign reach its desired goal.

A passionate link builder is the one who reads endlessly about the changing trends in from the perspective of online marketing. In fact, he or she can contribute profoundly in developing strategies for content, viral marketing, social media marketing and so on. Link building is a very tedious and knowledge intensive activity. It calls for a tremendous understanding of how networking happens on the web and how one can leverage this network to gain prominence.

Enterprises should always-hire link-builder who is creative and is proactive in doing things. He/she should be assertive and eloquent about his/her thoughts. A link builder can be an asset in a marketing team if He or she is given the opportunity and the freedom to fully exert his or her potential.

Podcasting: The Latest Craze

"Check out my latest podcast", or "That was an awesome podcast" is how most conversations begin nowadays! If you don't have a web presence then chances are you are going to stand as a mute spectator as everybody else is engaged in animated conversation about the number of hits their latest podcast has managed to get and how many comments were posted on it.

Stand Out From The Crowd

As there are millions of podcasts being uploaded every other day, there is a mad scramble amongst podcasters to gain an extra edge over the others. Because after all to stand out from the crowd and being noticed is the hope and dream of everybody! The easiest way of getting noticed is to get your podcast transcribed. Yes, and like all simple things in life transcribing podcasts is also grossly overlooked.

Transcribing podcasts is not just an advantage BUT essential.

How you may want to ask. The simple answer is people react to visuals but more often than not relate to text. It is imbibed in our mental process, to read about something gives added emphasis and also a touch of credibility to the visuals. A text transcript can help in capturing fleeting images into the more concrete text format. Professionals and amateurs across all fields and industries have started uploading a sample of their work on the net to increase visibility and attract potential employers or clients.

Photographers, web designers, aspiring film makers and musicians have turned podcasting from a mere entertainment platform to a potential tool for furthering business or professional interests. A text transcript can help your work look more professional and help convey to your employers or customers that you take your work seriously.

And finally Google, the reigning lord of the net kingdom loves text. Google indexes and ranks pages based on keywords and a text transcript can earn you brownie points with Google. It cannot get easier than this right! The only trade off being that you cannot find the time to sit and to transcribe and type out your podcast and even worse don't even know how to go about it.

Transcriptions services: The way to go!

Relax and take a chill pill there are several transcription firms that offer audio to text transcription services of podcasts. Yes, you read that right. But now comes the next big hurdle, how much can you afford to shell out? Thankfully there are transcription firms that work from off shore locations such as India and as the value of the Indian rupee is quite low the transcribing costs are pretty low as well.

Most of my friends being avid podcasters recommend Transcriptions services, a well established transcribing concern that specializes in podcast transcription services.

10 Secrets to a Healthy Computer and a Happier You

There comes a time in a person's life where no matter how much you fight it time takes its toll and we begin to slow down in how we perform our daily activities. However, in order to extend our youthful glow and energy levels it is important to eat right, exercise, and keep a positive outlook on life.

Now you may ask what has any of that got to do with "Secrets To A Healthy Computer?"

Well, in a way we're all just like a computer. If you neglect to take care of yourself you soon will cease to function properly and the many tasks that once were easy to do now take twice as long to accomplish and often require you to rest or "reboot" after a malfunction.

I can't tell you what foods to eat or what exercises to perform because I am not a nutritionist. Although, with my experiences in the personal computer field I can share with you some tips of how to keep that rectangle box of circuitry that sits within sights range functioning at maximum performance as long as time will allow.

Some important steps to follow are....

Make certain that your computer is located in a well ventilated area and that all air vents are unobstructed to prevent overheating and premature failure to any internal components.

Clean out the dust build-up at least every 6 months from the inside of the computer case including case vents, power supply vents, and all visible circuitry with a few cans of compressed air that can be purchased from any major computer store or electronics outlet. This will help reduce the chances of overheating and circuitry damage.

Before cleaning just be certain to always unplug the computer from the wall outlet and never physically contact the circuitry inside the computer case to prevent damage.

Be prepared for an unsuspected failure by always making backups of any important data that you do not and can not afford to lose.

I personally keep updated backups of my website and even store the disks at a remote location away from my every day use computers just in case a disaster were to occur and my main computers were destroyed resulting in the need for those lost files.

Purchase and install a well known anti-virus program that can be regularly updated with the latest virus definitions and ran during boot-up to help protect your computer from being the victim of an unwanted infestation.

Every few months or so run your computer's "Scandisk" program followed by the "Defragmenter" program to maximize the efficiency of your hard drive.

If you are not certain of how to use these utilities and being that the steps to execute these programs varies slightly from one operating system to the other it would be easiest to simply use the "Help" option that can be found by clicking on the START button found on your computers desktop.

The START menu will open up a drop-down-box that should display the "Help" option. By going here you can enter the keywords that deal with the answers to the subject you are searching for.

Run your computers "Disk Cleanup" utility every other week or so. If set the "Disk Cleanup" utility will automatically empty the recycling bin and recover some wasted disk space by removing the internet temporary files that seem to always accumulate.

Again, use the "Help" option if you are uncertain of how to perform this task.

Never smoke near a computer because the cooling fans will pull the smoke into the case where it can coat the inside parts of the computer with a residue which in turn can damage sensitive components.

Place the computer case in an area where it will not be accidentally kicked or bumped to prevent the loosening of cables and damage to internal parts.

Invest in a high quality surge protector to provide your computer and monitor against voltage spikes or "surges" that can dramatically shorten the life of your system. Just like most items in a store, "You get what you pay for". So don't skimp out on this important device!

Its also not a bad idea to invest in a surge protector that includes what is called a "Data Line Protector" which allows you to connect your telephone lines to and serves the same purpose for the telephone line to your modem just like the surge protector does for the electrical household current lines.

Finally, if you plan on being away from home for more that a few days at a time or if there is a thunderstorm brewing in your area it is a very wise decision to always unplug all electrical lines and modem telephone lines from your system. Even with a surge protector installed it is possible that such a large voltage spike such as one caused by a lightening strike could prove fatal to any computer system.

If you follow these simple steps the outcome is a healthy computer that will stay by your side and treat you well which also results in a happier you.

Reed Barton Antique Silver Still Popular Today

Reed Barton, who were originally known as Babbitt & Crossman in 1824 when they started the production of a kind of Pewter also called brittania which was the base metal used to produce statuettes such as the now famous Oscars. They soon began to produce silver plated items and were well established in this field by 1840 when they changed their name to Reed Barton.

As a highly regarded and well established manufacturer of silverware they sold a large range of their silver plated items to Rogers Bros before the end of the decade in Connecticut, that in turn placed the now famous hallmarks on those items. Over these years they also produced weaponry for the troops and towards the end of that century they were well into producing a variety of silver plated figures of animals including peacocks, rabbits, sheep, dogs, horses and cats amongst others.

It was during the mid 1850's that Reed Barton began manufacturing high-end sterling silver items, recognising the growing demand in silver at the time. Launching their own product line of sterling silver flatware, goblets, bowls and trays by 1889 proved to be another positive move. During the later part of the 19th century though, they struggled with competing producers of silver pieces who had started using more mechanical ways in their production process.

It was at this time that they took on a new approach to their own methods of production. In order to keep up with the times, just as other silversmiths had done before them, they decided to set themselves up for mass producing and moved away from the old handcrafting strategy. Reed Barton soon became a major contender for manufacturers alike after extensively advertising their new products and brand and some time prior to the First World War, began producing trophies for a range of sporting competitions including sailing and yachting amongst others.

Ever since then Reed Barton has maintained a prominent status for producing quality products that remain popular to this day. Confirming this, is the fact that they were offered the prestigious task of manufacturing the 1996 Olympic Games medals of Gold, Silver and Bronze.

They wanted to give their silver items a unique icon just as other manufacturers did, so it was in 1945 that they began creating their own unique symbols for their products. Each piece since then will have its special mark representing the year it was produced thereby allowing collectors or buyers to more easily determine its value.

Reed Barton is still a well respected name known for maintaining an uncompromised standard of excellence along with a passion for creating exquisite sterling silver products. Although the company is renowned for their antique silver and flatware pieces their range of manufacturing also includes cigar humidors, hardwood flatware, handcrafted chests, handmade stemware, which needless to say, are also popular with collectors. Situated in Taunton, Massachusetts which was previously referred to as Silver City, due to the many silver producing companies in the are, you should not miss the opportunity to visit them if you have an interest in silverware.

How to Choose the Right Golf Club Bag for Travel

Golf is one of the fastest rising sports today. More and more people are getting into it. They are taking it up for various reasons and benefits that they are getting from it.

If you have tried playing the game already and you are into the game of golf right now, then congratulations because you have made an excellent choice when it comes to the game that you chose to engage in. You should try to expand your golf playing horizons some more by trying out some new things.

One way that you can expand your golf playing is by going to different gold courses in different places. That's a popular idea today and in fact golf tourism is very common travel and vacation idea right now, with lots of tour packages being offered. It combines sightseeing and playing golf.

One thing that golfers agree on whenever they go to different places in order to play golf, they would still prefer to use their own golf clubs. That means you would have to bring your own golf clubs when you go around and that is no easy thing. In order to do that you would need a good golf club travel bag to help you out.

In order to give you an idea on how to pick that necessary golf accessory, here is a short guide on how you can buy the right golf club travel bag for your own use:

It is important that you pick a bag with the right size so that all of your clubs and drivers could fit inside. If you have to, bring a measuring tape so you can measure the length of the bag with accuracy. It would be costly for you to find out later on that a bag is too short. Think about how well protected your golf clubs would be inside the bag. If you are going to travel by air then you have to pick a bag that has enough cushion and protection to it. If you travel by car and you handle your clubs on your own, then a simple bag would do. How heavy would be the case that you want to get? That should be another factor for you to think about. A heavy case might prove to be difficult to handle, so try to look for a light but rugged case. Try looking for a golf club travel bag on the internet. You can compare the different available products there by their specifications and you would not have to leave the comfort of your own home. Consider buying a used golf club bag. Just make sure that it is still in excellent condition and that it could still hold all of the golf clubs that you have, then it should still work for you.

These are just some of the things that you need to think about when you are planning on buying a golf club travel bag for your golf travelling needs.

Bird Room Filtration Systems

The air quality in your bird room needs to be fresh and clean 24 hours a day in order to insure the best possible quality of life for your pet. The filtering system that you choose needs to have the following 5 features in order to be effective.

Multiple Filtration Stages---Sending the air through a series of filters systematically and meticulously clears the air of various sized particulates. Having a canister that contains at least 4 filters means the air is thoroughly cleaned before it is sent back out into the room.

Long Lasting Filter---The longer the filters are able to remain effective, the more filtration hours you receive for your money. Having multiple filters will allow particles to be filtered according to size. This means that one expensive filter does not have to used up for particles that could just as easily be removed by a larger and less expensive filter.

Having the unit contain a filter that effectively removes gaseous pollutants is a real plus. Birds are notoriously sensitive to gases and were often used in less than humane ways. Taking birds into the mines and having them die when the gases got to a dangerous level is the way miners use to cut their exposure to deadly fumes.

Pet birds are still extremely vulnerable to gaseous odors and chemicals. Having at least one filter that can remove them means one a single can remove both gaseous and particulate hazards. This is a savings on money and space.

The other advantage to not having to constantly replace the filter is that it lowers your cost to run the unit. And there's no down side to that.

Easy Maintenance---Maintenance should include vacuuming the outside without having to stop the cleaner. Maintenance for the purifier should only need to be done when you are doing regularly scheduled cleaning of your home. It can certainly done more frequently, but the less you have to do, the more time you can spend enjoying your bird.

Replacing the filter should take a maximum of 10 minutes. A complicated and involved procedure doesn't encourage you to replace the filter, and for every minute the air is not being cleaned, the air quality is deteriorating for you and your pet.

Flexible Placement---A bird room should be all about the birds. A cleaner should be able to be placed anywhere in the room and still function well. A unit that can pull air from all 4 sides will give you the flexibility of placement that is often needed in an aviary.

360 degree intake also allows you to place the unit as close as 6 inches to any surface and still have it work well. The ability to place it close to walls or other furniture lessens cord hazards---tripping for people, and chewing for birds.

Purer Air---The goal for any filtration system is to provide the purest air possible. Doing this without emitting controversial by-products such as ozone and ionized particles is the by most bird-lovers' standards the best option to choose. HEPA and carbon filters have longed been acknowledged as 2 of the safest and effective filters for creating purer, and healthier air.
